York City police are investigating a shooting that injured a 31-year-old woman Friday night near West Market Street.

Emergency dispatchers received the call shortly after 9 p.m., according to WGAL. Police responded to the area as nearby roads, including portions of Belvidere and West Market streets, were closed during the investigation.

Initial public information did not include the woman's condition, a suspect description or a confirmed motive. Police had also not announced an arrest in the first hours after the shooting.

The road closures and police presence were intended to protect the scene while investigators gathered evidence. In shooting investigations, detectives typically work to identify witnesses, locate surveillance footage and recover ballistic or other physical evidence before providing a fuller account.

Residents should rely on York City Police and emergency-management channels for verified updates, especially if traffic restrictions continue or authorities release a request for public assistance.

The American Desk will update this report when police release additional confirmed information about the victim, a suspect or any arrest.
