JCPenney's store at Ross Park Mall is scheduled to close permanently Sunday, ending the retailer's run at one of the Pittsburgh region's major shopping centers.
A company spokesperson confirmed the closing to WTAE and said JCPenney was unable to continue under the store's current lease terms and had not found another suitable location in the market.
The closure affects shoppers and retail workers in Allegheny County, but it does not represent a complete exit from Western Pennsylvania. JCPenney continues to operate stores at Monroeville, Robinson, Westmoreland, Uniontown and Indiana malls, according to the company statement reported by WTAE.
Department-store closures can have broader effects on enclosed malls because large anchor spaces influence foot traffic, leasing plans and redevelopment options.
