Frederick County officials are advising drivers to expect cyclist-related traffic impacts Sunday, September 20, during Gran Fondo Maryland, a one-day event that will also host the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships.
The county said the event begins at 8 a.m. in Baker Park in the City of Frederick. No county roads are scheduled to close, but officials said motorists should be alert for cyclists throughout the day.
Approximately 800 riders are expected. The county identified Yellow Springs Road, Indian Springs Road, Hamburg Road, Gambrill Park Road, Highland School Road and Harp Hill Road as roads expected to see the largest groups of riders.
Riders will also use roads in and around the Frederick Watershed, Wolfsville, Sabillasville, Mount St. Mary’s University, Catoctin Mountain Park, Gambrill State Park and Yellow Springs, according to the county advisory.
USA Cycling lists the Frederick event as the September 20 stop for its 2026 Gran Fondo National Championships. Residents and visitors traveling through the affected areas should allow additional time and use heightened caution around riders.
